Dallas, Texas – Residents across North and Central Texas should prepare for a wet and stormy holiday weekend, as persistent showers and thunderstorms are expected to bring gusty winds and a significant threat of localized flooding through Labor Day. The weather pattern could cause travel delays and interruptions to outdoor activities.

According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, scattered showers and storms began moving in from the northwest early Saturday morning, with additional storm development expected this afternoon. The highest storm chances will be in Central Texas, where brief heavy rain, frequent lightning, and gusty winds are the main hazards. The storm threat continues into Sunday, with an 80-90% chance for precipitation in the Cisco area and a 50-70% chance for Dallas, Fort Worth, and Waco.

The ongoing weather pattern means periods of heavy rain could lead to localized flooding, an increasing concern for areas that have already seen rainfall this week. The National Weather Service advises residents to “Turn Around, Don’t Drown” if they encounter flooded roadways. While the risk decreases slightly by Monday, showers and storms with a 20-30% chance of rain remain in the forecast for the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Those with outdoor plans should plan for interruptions and be ready to head indoors if they hear thunder.

Warnings remain in effect for parts of the region through Sunday night, with residents urged to stay informed as conditions can change quickly.
