Dallas, Texas – Much of North Texas is under a severe thunderstorm watch until 10 p.m. Sunday, with the potential for damaging winds, large hail, and dangerous lightning extending across the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex and surrounding counties.
According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, the watch covers 23 counties including Dallas, Tarrant, Denton, Collin, Grayson, and Parker. Storms are expected to intensify late this afternoon and evening, with the strongest cells capable of producing wind gusts over 60 mph and hail larger than quarters.
Residents in Denton, McKinney, and Sherman may experience heavy downpours that could reduce visibility and cause localized flooding on major roadways such as I-35 and U.S. 75. Outdoor activities and evening travel may be disrupted as the line of storms moves eastward toward the Red River and into North Central Texas.
Emergency officials urge residents to move indoors at the first sign of thunder, secure loose outdoor items, and keep phones charged in case of power outages. Drivers are advised to avoid flooded intersections and stay alert for rapidly changing conditions.
The severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect until 10 p.m., and forecasters warn additional advisories may be issued if storms continue overnight.
