FORT WORTH, Texas – The crisp calm before the chill is here. After several sun-splashed November afternoons in the 80s, North Texas is on the verge of its first hard freeze of the season, with temperatures plunging nearly 50 degrees in just two days.

According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, a strong push of Arctic air will sweep through Sunday evening, sending lows into the upper 20s and lower 30s by dawn Monday. A Freeze Watch is now in effect from late Sunday through Monday morning for much of north, northeast, and central Texas — including Dallas, Fort Worth, Denton, Waco, and Gainesville.

Sub-freezing temperatures could dip as low as 26°F in colder rural areas, officially ending the growing season. Residents are urged to protect outdoor plants, wrap exposed pipes, and bring pets indoors. Light winds and clear skies will make the cold especially sharp by early Monday.

Sunday still looks pleasant under sunny skies and breezy north winds, with highs near 60°F before temperatures tumble fast after sunset. Monday will stay cool, reaching only the mid-50s despite full sunshine. By Veterans Day, however, a rebound begins — highs climb back into the low 70s under bright skies, perfect for ceremonies or short commutes.

To be fair, this chill won’t last long, but it’s a true wake-up call for fall. Texans can expect another warm-up midweek before cooler, more typical November air returns late week. For now, the first freeze of the season serves as a reminder — winter isn’t far behind.
