FORT WORTH, Texas – North and Central Texas will experience the coldest night so far this season Monday night, with widespread freezing temperatures expected by daybreak Tuesday. The National Weather Service in Fort Worth warns that temperatures will dip into the mid- and upper 20s across much of the region, including Sherman, Graham, and Paris, with readings near 30°F in DFW, Waco, and Killeen.
Residents are urged to take cold-weather precautions—cover outdoor faucets, bring pets indoors, and turn off sprinkler systems to prevent icy patches on roads and sidewalks during the Tuesday morning commute. Wind chills will make it feel even colder, especially before sunrise.
According to forecasters, skies will remain clear overnight, allowing strong radiational cooling. A slow warming trend begins Tuesday afternoon, with highs recovering into the mid-50s, then climbing into the mid-60s to near 70°F by Wednesday under sunny skies.
No precipitation is expected through midweek, but forecasters note another front could arrive late in the week, bringing a return to cooler weather by Friday.
The National Weather Service advises residents to check on elderly neighbors, ensure outdoor animals have shelter, and protect sensitive plants overnight.
