Dallas, Texas – A powerful cold front is sweeping across North Texas Friday, bringing the risk of severe thunderstorms by late afternoon and dramatically cooler temperatures through the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, storms will begin developing after 4 p.m., with the highest risk of damaging winds, lightning, and small hail stretching from Sherman and Paris down through the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. Football games and evening travel could face disruptions as scattered cells intensify through Friday evening.
Gusty downburst winds are the main hazard, but forecasters warn isolated severe storms could briefly turn dangerous. Rain chances remain elevated into Friday night, with the heaviest activity between DFW, Waco, and Greenville. By Saturday, scattered showers linger in Central Texas, especially around Palestine and Waco, with coverage tapering off by Sunday evening.
The payoff comes in cooler air: highs will drop from near 100 on Friday to the upper 70s and low 80s Saturday and Sunday across Dallas, Sherman, and Fort Worth. Central Texas, including Waco and Killeen, will hover in the low 80s through the weekend before warming returns early next week.
Residents are urged to monitor weather alerts, limit outdoor plans Friday evening, and prepare for possible delays. Additional advisories may be issued if storm activity strengthens.
