Dallas, Texas – Residents across Dallas-Fort Worth and much of North Texas will face dangerous heat Thursday afternoon, with heat index values climbing as high as 109 from 1 to 8 p.m. The risk for heat-related illnesses will be highest during the late afternoon and early evening, especially for anyone working or spending time outdoors.
According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, this heat advisory covers most of North Texas, stretching from Montague and Denton down through Dallas, Ellis, Navarro, and Henderson counties. High humidity combined with soaring temperatures will create oppressive conditions across cities like Plano, Fort Worth, Arlington, and Garland, while rural areas from Bowie to Athens are also included in the alert.
Officials urge everyone to stay in air-conditioned spaces if possible, drink plenty of fluids, and check on vulnerable neighbors and relatives. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends frequent rest breaks in shade or cool rooms for outdoor workers, and anyone showing signs of heat exhaustion or heat stroke should get immediate help. Never leave children or pets in vehicles for any amount of time.
This latest advisory lasts until 8 p.m. Thursday, but more heat alerts could be issued if temperatures stay elevated into the weekend.
