Dallas, TX – High winds are expected to sweep across the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area and much of North Texas on Sunday, prompting a Wind Advisory from the National Weather Service.
According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, the advisory is in effect from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. CDT on Sunday, April 13. Forecasters warn that south winds of 20 to 25 mph with gusts reaching 35 to 40 mph will impact travel and outdoor activities throughout the region.
The advisory covers a wide area including Dallas, Tarrant, Denton, Collin, and McLennan counties, extending from Gainesville and Paris down to Waco, Temple, and Killeen. Drivers of high-profile vehicles are urged to use caution, particularly on east-west routes, as strong crosswinds may affect handling. Boaters should be especially cautious on area lakes due to choppy waters and sudden gusts.
Residents should secure loose outdoor items such as trash bins, patio furniture, and decorations to prevent them from becoming hazards. Small tree limbs may break, and isolated power outages are possible.
The winds are expected to ease Sunday evening. Historically, April winds in North Texas average 10–15 mph, making these gusts notably stronger than normal.
