Dallas, Texas – Lightning and downpours could disrupt the Wednesday afternoon commute across North Texas, with storm chances climbing to 50% by peak travel hours.
According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, an unsettled pattern will take hold midweek, bringing repeated rounds of showers and thunderstorms each day through Saturday. While rainfall won’t be constant, storms may develop quickly and produce brief heavy rain, gusty winds, and cloud-to-ground lightning across the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.
The highest coverage begins Wednesday, with storms expanding along the I-35 corridor, including Denton, Fort Worth, and Dallas. By Thursday and Friday, scattered storms continue with coverage ranging from 30% to 40%, keeping roads slick during both morning and evening commutes. Temperatures will fluctuate from the mid-70s to low 80s, adding humidity that fuels additional storm development.
Cities south of DFW, including Waco, Temple, and Killeen, face similar conditions, with rain chances hovering near 40% midweek before briefly dipping Friday. Localized ponding on roadways is possible, especially in low-lying and poorly drained areas.
Drivers should allow extra time, avoid flooded roads, and keep devices charged in case of isolated outages. This active pattern holds through Saturday night, and additional advisories may be issued as storm timing becomes clearer.
