Dallas–Fort Worth, Texas – A strong cold front is expected to sweep through North Texas Sunday afternoon into Sunday night, bringing a rapid temperature drop of up to 50 degrees and ushering in the coldest air of the season so far.

According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, Sunday will be the last unseasonably warm day, with afternoon highs reaching the mid to upper 70s across much of the Dallas–Fort Worth area. As the front moves south Sunday evening, temperatures will fall quickly overnight, with Monday morning lows near or below freezing.

Forecast guidance shows gusty north winds up to 35 mph developing behind the front, contributing to wind chills in the 20s, and potentially upper teens in parts of North and Central Texas, including areas near the Red River and the Big Country.

High temperatures Monday and Tuesday are expected to remain near to below average, with highs generally in the low to mid 40s across Dallas–Fort Worth. Overnight lows Monday night into Tuesday morning are forecast to dip into the 20s, prompting concerns for exposed pipes, sensitive plants, and those without adequate cold-weather shelter.

The Weather Service notes that isolated showers may develop along and ahead of the front Sunday afternoon and evening, mainly along and east of the Interstate 35 corridor, before drier and colder air settles in overnight.

Temperatures are expected to moderate by midweek, returning closer to seasonal levels with highs in the 50s and lows in the 30s by Wednesday. Residents are urged to secure lightweight outdoor items, dress in warm layers, and prepare for a cold start to the workweek.
