Dallas–Fort Worth, Texas – A warming trend begins today as temperatures rise well above normal across North and Central Texas.

Sunny skies are expected throughout the region Thursday, with afternoon highs ranging from the mid-60s in East Texas to the lower 70s west of Interstate 35, according to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth.

Forecasters say developing high pressure aloft combined with west winds will drive the warmer conditions. Wind speeds are expected to range from 10 to 15 mph, helping boost temperatures above seasonal averages across much of the area.

In the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex, highs are forecast to reach near 70 degrees, compared to a normal high of 59. Locations farther west, including Graham and areas along U.S. Highway 380, could see highs climb to around 72 degrees. Central Texas communities such as Waco and Killeen are expected to reach the upper 60s, while East Texas cities including Paris and Palestine remain slightly cooler in the mid-60s.

The National Weather Service notes that these temperatures represent a noticeable shift from recent cooler conditions. While no hazardous weather is expected today, the warmer and breezy conditions may be felt most noticeably by commuters traveling along major corridors such as Interstate 35 and U.S. Highway 75 during the afternoon hours.

This warming trend is expected to continue into Friday before a brief cooldown arrives early in the weekend. Temperatures are forecast to dip back into the teens and 20s overnight Saturday before rebounding again by Sunday and early next week.

The mild conditions today may be particularly relevant for students, outdoor workers, and commuters, as pleasant weather is expected during peak travel and school dismissal hours.

Residents are encouraged to enjoy the sunshine while staying aware of changing conditions heading into the weekend.
