Fort Worth, Texas – Storms could erupt across North Texas as early as 3 p.m. Friday as a cold front pushes south through the region, bringing a sudden risk of heavy rain, lightning, and gusty winds just ahead of the evening commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, the cold front is currently stretching from Graham to near Bonham and continues to move slowly southward. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop along and behind the front, with the most active window between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m.

Residents in Denton, McKinney, and northern Tarrant County should remain weather-aware this afternoon as conditions may deteriorate quickly. Rain-cooled air and storm outflows could reduce visibility on I-35 and I-20, and urban flooding cannot be ruled out in low-lying areas.

Those in the path of the front are urged to secure loose outdoor items and avoid outdoor activities after 3 p.m. Power outages are not expected to be widespread but could occur in isolated spots with stronger cells.

This is part of a broader shift to cooler conditions across Texas, with the front ushering in more seasonable temperatures by Saturday.

Additional updates and possible advisories are expected later today as storm development becomes more widespread.
