Dallas–Fort Worth, Texas — A rapid shift from mild weather to fire danger and then freezing temperatures is expected across the Dallas–Fort Worth area through the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service Fort Worth, Thursday will remain quiet with sunny skies, light winds, and highs in the low to mid-60s across much of North Texas. Conditions change Friday as a cold front moves through, bringing breezy north winds and lower humidity.
Forecasters say Friday afternoon winds of 10 to 20 mph, combined with dry fuels, will increase the grass fire risk, especially west of Interstate 35. Outdoor burning is discouraged, as fires could spread quickly under these conditions.
Temperatures will fall sharply Friday night, with colder air spilling south behind the front. Overnight lows near 30 to 33 degrees are expected in parts of the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex, with colder readings farther north and west.
Saturday will be cloudy and cold, with afternoon highs only in the mid to upper 40s. The coldest period is expected Saturday night, when lows drop into the low to mid-20s, raising concerns for exposed pipes, pets, and sensitive plants.
Sunny conditions return Sunday, with highs rebounding into the mid-50s, but the overnight freeze potential late Saturday will be the most impactful period.
This forecast is especially relevant for outdoor workers, commuters, and homeowners, as fire weather concerns Friday will quickly transition into freeze impacts by the weekend.
