Dallas–Fort Worth, Texas – A significant winter storm is expected to bring dangerous ice accumulations to the metroplex and surrounding areas this weekend, raising the threat of widespread power outages and hazardous travel.

According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, an Ice Storm Warning is in effect for parts of eastern North and Central Texas, including the Dallas–Fort Worth area. Forecasts call for 0.50 to 0.75 inches of ice, with isolated higher amounts possible south and east of DFW. Areas farther north toward the Red River may see lighter ice totals of 0.10 to 0.25 inches, while still experiencing slick conditions.

Freezing rain is expected to develop first, followed by periods of sleet and snow. Combined sleet and snow totals of 1 to 3 inches are possible near DFW, with higher amounts north of the metroplex. Ice accumulation on trees and power lines could lead to power outages that may be prolonged.

Travel is expected to deteriorate rapidly, especially on bridges and elevated roadways. Officials urge residents to avoid unnecessary travel and prepare emergency kits.

Commuters, shift workers, and families are advised to plan for disruptions through Sunday afternoon.
