Texas begins the morning under damp gray skies, with mild air lingering for now and puddles reflecting streetlights across North Texas. The calm is temporary. By Friday, winter tightens its grip, and conditions could deteriorate quickly across the Dallas–Fort Worth region.
According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, a Winter Storm Watch is in effect from Friday afternoon through late Saturday night for all of North and Central Texas. Moderate to heavy accumulations of snow, sleet, or ice are possible. Roads, especially bridges and overpasses, may become dangerously slick. Power outages could occur where ice builds on trees and lines.
Today stays relatively warm. Highs climb into the mid-60s with scattered showers possible. Wet pavement may linger into the evening, setting the stage for future freezing concerns once colder air arrives.
Thursday turns quieter but cooler. Clouds hold firm, with highs near the low 60s. By Thursday night, rain chances return. Temperatures drop into the 40s, and cold air continues advancing south.
Friday marks the turning point. Rain develops early, then transitions to a rain-sleet mix by afternoon as temperatures fall into the 30s. By evening, freezing rain and sleet become more likely. Travel conditions may worsen rapidly after sunset.
Friday night into Saturday brings the highest impact window. Sleet and freezing rain may change to snow at times. Temperatures hover in the 20s. Ice accumulation could damage power lines and trees. Avoid unnecessary travel if possible.
Saturday night remains icy before gradual improvement Sunday. Even small daytime melting could refreeze quickly, increasing flash-freeze risks.
Looking ahead, the 6–10 day outlook keeps Texas cooler than normal, while precipitation chances remain elevated across the southern Plains.
