Fort Worth, Texas – Drivers and outdoor workers across Dallas-Fort Worth face a dual threat Friday as an Ozone Action Day and dangerous heat combine to create hazardous conditions for much of North Texas.
According to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, high ozone levels are expected in the Dallas-Fort Worth area through Friday, August 1, driven by stagnant air and rising temperatures. The National Weather Service reports heat index values could soar as high as 105°F by mid-afternoon, adding to health risks for vulnerable groups.
City impacts will be widespread, with areas from Fort Worth to Dallas, Arlington, and Denton under the alert. Residents are urged to limit outdoor activities, avoid strenuous exercise in the afternoon, and help curb pollution by carpooling, walking, or using public transit. Employers should adjust schedules for outdoor crews, while parents are advised to keep children indoors during peak hours. Area highways, including I-35 and I-20, could see slower commutes as air quality worsens.
The last Ozone Action Day in DFW prompted similar safety recommendations in June. Officials say even healthy adults should monitor symptoms such as coughing or throat irritation. Charge phones and check local air quality at AirNorthTexas.org before venturing out.
Ozone alerts and heat advisories may extend into the weekend. The National Weather Service will issue updates as conditions evolve.
