Bismarck, ND – A powerful burst of fall wind is sweeping across the Dakotas and western Minnesota this Sunday, with gusts approaching 50 mph expected to rattle homes, topple branches, and make driving difficult on open highways. The National Weather Service issued multiple Wind Advisories spanning from 6 a.m. through 4 p.m. CDT, covering much of central and eastern North Dakota, northeastern South Dakota, and the Red River Valley of Minnesota.

According to the National Weather Service offices in Bismarck, Aberdeen, and Grand Forks, north to northwest winds will peak between midmorning and early afternoon before slowly easing by evening. Areas most affected include Bismarck, Jamestown, Fargo, Aberdeen, Watertown, Sisseton, and Grand Forks, along with counties from Burleigh and Stutsman in North Dakota southward into Brown, Codington, and Roberts in South Dakota.

Travel along Interstates 29 and 94 may become challenging, particularly for high-profile vehicles such as trucks and campers. Local utilities are warning of isolated power outages where tree limbs strike lines. Residents are urged to secure outdoor furniture, garbage bins, and harvest equipment ahead of the peak gusts.

By late afternoon, winds are expected to ease to 15–25 mph as cooler, drier air settles in. Temperatures will hover in the 50s today before dropping into the 30s overnight—signaling a crisp, breezy start to the new workweek.
