Aberdeen, SD – A Blizzard Warning is in effect this evening across portions of eastern South Dakota and western Minnesota, where forecasters warn of whiteout conditions, 50 mph wind gusts, and additional snowfall up to 7 inches.

According to the National Weather Service in Aberdeen, the warning covers Brown, Day, Marshall, Roberts, and Grant counties in South Dakota, and Big Stone and Traverse counties in Minnesota — including Aberdeen, Webster, Sisseton, Milbank, and Ortonville.

The storm will continue through late Tuesday night, producing blowing and drifting snow that will make travel very difficult to impossible, especially on Highways 12, 81, and I-29. Forecasters warn visibility could drop below a quarter mile, particularly in open areas and rural stretches.

Snow totals are expected to range from 2 to 7 inches, with heavier bands in northeastern South Dakota. The strong winds may also bring down tree branches and power lines, leading to scattered outages across the region.

Drivers are urged to avoid travel unless absolutely necessary, as road crews report worsening conditions through Tuesday evening. Those who must travel should carry winter survival kits, including blankets, flashlights, food, and water, in case of emergencies.
