CROWN POINT, Ind. – Demolition work is expected to begin as early as next week on portions of the former Franciscan Health Crown Point campus, marking a key step in the property’s ongoing redevelopment.

According to Franciscan Health, crews from Tonn and Blank Construction will remove the former bed tower and part of the first floor of the main hospital building. Contractors will work during daytime hours and use dust control measures throughout the process.

The partial demolition is part of a broader transformation plan for the historic hospital site at 1201 S. Main St. Construction fencing went up in July, and interior work has been underway to prepare the tower and lower level for removal. Nearby traffic patterns were recently adjusted for safety as the project progressed.

When demolition is complete, the cleared sections will be converted into green space. Several administrative and outpatient programs will continue operating on-site. The Burrell Cancer Center on Court Street will remain open to patients during the project, with cancer care expected to move to the Dean and Barbara White Cancer Center in 2027, currently under construction near Interstate 65 and U.S. 231.

Franciscan Alliance also donated more than 12 acres adjacent to the property to the Dean and Barbara White Southlake YMCA, where Tonn and Blank are building a new YMCA Sportscenter featuring basketball and pickleball courts. The facility is slated to open in January 2026.
