Crown Point, IN – In a significant ceremony at the new Franciscan Health Crown Point, The Most Rev. Robert McClory, Bishop of the Diocese of Gary, consecrated the altar in the St. Joseph Chapel. This event took place during a special Mass on Tuesday, marking a milestone in the hospital’s history.

According to Franciscan Health, the altar, a handcrafted piece made of red oak with a stone top, is a donation from Jon Gilmore and Joe Coar, President and CEO, and retired Vice President of Operations of Tonn and Blank Construction, respectively. Their contribution embodies a deep connection with the mission of the Franciscan Sisters, aiming to enhance the spiritual environment of the new healthcare facility.

Sister M. Petra Nielsen, OSF, highlighted the providential timing of the consecration, aligning with the Feast of St. Joseph and held in a chapel dedicated to him. This coincidence underscores the special significance of the altar and the chapel within the Franciscan Health community.

Bishop McClory drew parallels between the dedicated service of St. Joseph and the healthcare professionals at Franciscan Health Crown Point, emphasizing the importance and impact of their often unseen work. The consecration Mass was described by Dr. Daniel McCormick, President and CEO of Franciscan Health Crown Point, as transformative, reflecting on the bishop’s acknowledgment of healthcare workers’ silent yet substantial contributions.

The consecration ceremony is part of a series of spiritual events leading up to the opening of the new hospital, including a chapel and hospital blessing led by Bishop McClory in January. The new Franciscan Health Crown Point hospital, located at 12750 Saint Francis Drive, offers advanced medical services and spiritual care to the community.
