Crown Point, IN – A fire early Friday morning damaged a 36-unit apartment building on Cypress Point Drive, displacing several residents. Crown Point firefighters arrived at 3:24 a.m. to find heavy flames extending into the roof. Police quickly evacuated residents, and crews launched an aggressive attack to control the blaze.
According to the Crown Point Fire Department, the fire was contained within an hour and the scene cleared by 7:15 a.m. No injuries were reported, but a dog perished. The cause remains under investigation.
Four units were destroyed, while four others suffered smoke and water damage. The American Red Cross is assisting displaced residents with temporary accommodations.
The response included support from Merrillville, Cedar Lake, Hebron, and other local fire departments. Officials commended the swift teamwork that prevented further damage.
Residents are urged to remain cautious during winter months and check smoke alarms regularly. The community has already started organizing support for affected families.
