Cross Lanes, WV – Deputies in Kanawha County have arrested a suspect in connection with an $85,000 equipment theft from United Rentals in Cross Lanes.

According to the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office, James Keith Quesenberry, 37, of Poca, West Virginia, has been charged with Entry of a Building Other Than a Dwelling and Grand Larceny after a December 19, 2025, break-in.

Deputies say a male suspect entered United Rentals at 573 New Goff Mountain Road and stole a Ford F-550, a flatbed trailer, and two off-road utility vehicles. Investigators believe an excavator was used to break through a fence, allowing the suspect to leave with the stolen equipment.

During the investigation, detectives learned a stolen U-Haul truck had also been used in the theft. On December 25, Quesenberry was stopped while driving that vehicle. During questioning, he allegedly admitted to being the person captured on surveillance video.

Deputies later recovered the stolen trailer and one of the utility vehicles. Quesenberry is being held at the South Central Regional Jail on a $30,000 surety/cash bond.

Detective Boner and the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office thanked Putnam County Sheriff’s Office for assisting with the investigation and recovery efforts.

Authorities say the case remains under investigation, and additional arrests may follow.
