Pittsburgh, PA – The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for parts of eastern Ohio and northern West Virginia from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday, warning of dangerous fire conditions due to high temperatures, gusty winds, and extremely low humidity.
According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, counties under the warning include Tuscarawas, Carroll, Columbiana, Coshocton, Harrison, Jefferson, Muskingum, Guernsey, Belmont, Noble, and Monroe in Ohio and Hancock, Brooke, Ohio, Marshall, Wetzel, Marion, Monongalia, and Preston in West Virginia.
Forecasters warn that southerly winds of 15-20 mph, with gusts up to 35 mph, combined with humidity as low as 12% and temperatures reaching 82°F, create ideal conditions for rapid wildfire spread.
Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning, properly dispose of smoking materials, and stay alert for local fire restrictions. The warning will remain in effect through 10 p.m. Wednesday as conditions remain favorable for extreme fire behavior.
