Crestwood, IL – Eight first responders were hospitalized Tuesday after police and fire crews responded to a possible methamphetamine lab in Crestwood.

According to the Crestwood Police Department, the incident occurred September 30, 2025, in the 127th block of Central Avenue. During the response, four police officers and four firefighters were transported to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment after potential exposure.

All eight responders have since been treated and released, officials confirmed. The individual suspected of operating the meth lab remains hospitalized. Authorities did not release further details about the person’s condition.

Police said the criminal investigation is ongoing. Additional updates may be released as the case develops.

Residents in the area were not ordered to evacuate, but police urged caution and advised the community that safety protocols were followed during the response.

Methamphetamine production is considered highly dangerous due to toxic fumes, flammable chemicals, and potential explosions. Local officials said this type of incident can put not only those involved but also neighbors and first responders at risk.

The Crestwood Police Department has not announced any charges yet but stated that the investigation into the suspected operation is active.
