Crest Hill, IL –A house fire in Crest Hill on Tuesday morning left a home uninhabitable, though no injuries were reported, according to fire officials.
The Lockport Township Fire Protection District responded around 9 a.m. to a fire at a two-story single-family residence in the 16300 block of Rookery Drive. Firefighters arrived to find an active blaze and quickly worked to bring it under control.
According to authorities, the fire appeared to have started on the second floor, causing significant damage to the structure. The Crest Hill Building Department was called to assess the damage, and Red Cross was notified to assist the displaced residents. Fire crews also disconnected utilities as a safety precaution.
Due to the severity of the fire, it was upgraded to a general alarm, bringing in mutual aid from fire departments in Lemont, Homer, East Joliet, Bolingbrook, and Romeoville.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by Lockport Fire Investigators.
