Eureka, CA – The National Weather Service in Eureka has issued a High Wind Watch for Del Norte County, covering both coastal and interior areas, in effect from Saturday morning through Saturday afternoon.
Forecasters warn of southwest winds 25 to 35 mph, with gusts reaching up to 60 mph along the coast and up to 70 mph inland, especially in higher terrain near Gasquet and along windward ridges. A Wind Advisory is also in effect Friday from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m., preceding the stronger storm system expected Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service, these powerful winds could down trees and power lines, resulting in widespread power outages and dangerous driving conditions, particularly for high-profile vehicles. Blowing debris and falling branches may also make some roads hazardous.
Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, charge electronic devices, and prepare for possible power interruptions. Officials advise monitoring updated forecasts and alerts as the system approaches.
