Meadville, PA – A Lake Effect Snow Warning is in effect for Crawford County from 1 a.m. Thursday through 1 a.m. Saturday, as forecasters warn of heavy snow, strong winds, and whiteout conditions during the busy Thanksgiving travel period.
According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, total snow accumulations are expected to reach 8 to 16 inches, with the heaviest snow likely across the northern portions of the county. Winds could gust up to 45 mph, creating blowing and drifting snow, reduced visibility, and the potential for sporadic power outages.
The heaviest lake effect bands are expected to develop Thursday morning and persist through Friday night, with snowfall rates topping 1 inch per hour at times. Forecasters warn that travel could become difficult to impossible, with bridges and overpasses particularly slick.
Officials urge residents to delay nonessential travel, and those who must be on the roads should use extreme caution and keep a winter survival kit—including flashlights, food, and water—in their vehicles.
Motorists can check the latest road conditions and closures through the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s 511 system at 511pa.com.
Conditions are expected to gradually improve by Saturday morning as winds weaken and snowbands shift east.
