Crawford County, IN – Drivers traveling along Interstate 64 in southern Indiana experienced a dangerous situation Tuesday night after reports of a person obstructing traffic near English, leading to an arrest for operating while intoxicated.

According to Indiana State Police Jasper Post, troopers were dispatched to I-64 near the 86-mile marker around 9:48 p.m. Tuesday night following a complaint that someone was throwing a bicycle into moving traffic. Trooper Nathan Teusch arrived on scene and located Jayden Ditterline, 38, of Owensville, Indiana, near the roadway.

Police say Ditterline told troopers he had run out of gas and rode his bicycle onto the interstate. According to police, Ditterline allegedly threw the bicycle toward traffic because no one stopped to help him while he was stranded on the side of the road.

While speaking with Ditterline, Trooper Teusch observed what were described as visible signs of impairment. Ditterline was transported to IU Health Hospital in Paoli for a chemical test, police said.

Following the investigation, Ditterline was arrested and taken to the Crawford County Jail, where he is currently being held on bond.

According to Indiana State Police, Ditterline faces the following charges:

  • Operating While Intoxicated – Class A Misdemeanor
  • Driving While Suspended Prior – Class A Misdemeanor
  • Public Intoxication – Class C Misdemeanor

Trooper Kayla Denk-Mundy assisted at the scene. The incident caused temporary concern for motorists traveling through the area, though no injuries were reported.

All criminal defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
