Burlington, VT – As New England rolls into November, residents from Maine to Vermont may be wondering if this mild stretch could turn wintry before Thanksgiving. The NOAA Climate Prediction Center (CPC) says not just yet—but it’s watching for a possible late-month shift.
According to NOAA’s October 24 outlook, most of New England is expected to stay warmer and slightly drier than normal through mid-November. That means the first measurable snow may wait until after Thanksgiving, especially for lower elevations across Massachusetts and Connecticut.
Still, forecasters note that northern Vermont and northern Maine could see a few flurries late in the month, as colder air from Canada begins pushing south. A sharp pattern flip in late November could also impact holiday travel if timing aligns with Thanksgiving week.
While the overall winter start looks delayed, experts say it only takes one cold front to change the story. New Englanders should stay alert for updates as the holiday approaches.
