Cortland County, NY – A months-long investigation into a stolen dirt bike led to the arrest of two Homer men and the seizure of dozens of firearms, large quantities of drugs, and a stolen motorcycle, according to New York State Police.
According to State Police, Clayton J. Carley, 26, and Jeffrey C. Carley, 60, both of Homer, were arrested Wednesday following the execution of a search warrant at their residence by members of State Police Troop D and Troop C.
The investigation began in August 2024 after Troop D responded to a burglary complaint involving a stolen dirt bike in Oswego County. On January 12, investigators located the stolen dirt bike listed for sale on Facebook Marketplace, allegedly being sold by Clayton Carley in Cortland County. Police say the bike was positively identified by the victim based on unique characteristics visible in the listing.
During an interview at the residence, investigators say Clayton Carley was evasive and allegedly provided false information regarding the sale of the dirt bike. A search warrant was executed two days later.
State Police report the following items were seized:
- More than 40 rifles and shotguns
- Three handguns and five assault-style weapons
- A loaded shotgun with a shortened barrel
- High-capacity ammunition feeding devices
- Approximately 18 pounds of cannabis flower
- About six pounds of concentrated cannabis
- Roughly five ounces of psilocybin mushrooms
- Over 60 marijuana plants
- Brass knuckles, daggers, and a baton
- More than $5,000 in U.S. currency
- A stolen 2024 motorcycle
Both men face multiple felony and misdemeanor charges, including criminal possession of weapons, controlled substances, stolen property, and firearms. They were processed at State Police Homer and transported to the Cortland County Jail for centralized arraignment.
Further investigation determined the stolen dirt bike had been sold to a buyer in the Buffalo area, who cooperated with authorities and surrendered the bike to State Police.
