ERIE, PA – A Lake Effect Snow Warning remains in effect for Crawford and Southern Erie counties until 1 p.m. Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service in Cleveland.
Forecasters report that heavy lake effect snow will continue through the night, with 5 to 8 inches of accumulation expected and isolated areas reaching up to 10 inches. Wind gusts up to 35 mph will reduce visibility to below one-quarter mile in some areas, creating dangerous travel conditions.
The NWS warns that the Monday evening and Tuesday morning commutes could be significantly impacted by slick, snow-covered roads and low visibility. The combination of wet, heavy snow and strong winds could also bring isolated power outages due to snow-laden branches and downed lines.
Snowfall rates within the heaviest bands may reach two inches per hour, particularly late Monday night into early Tuesday. Drivers are urged to avoid unnecessary travel and check road conditions via 511pa.com before heading out.
While snow bands may shift rapidly, forecasters caution that conditions can change from calm to whiteout in minutes, making even short drives hazardous.
