Corpus Christi, Texas – Temperatures across the southern Coastal Plains are soaring Friday, with heat index values reaching up to 111°F in some areas, prompting a Heat Advisory through 7 p.m. Residents from Alice to Kingsville are urged to stay hydrated and limit outdoor activity.
According to the National Weather Service in Corpus Christi, actual highs will range between 95°F and 100°F, while the combination of humidity and sun exposure will make it feel significantly hotter. The advisory covers the southern Coastal Plains, including Nueces, Kleberg, and Jim Wells counties.
Coastal cities like Corpus Christi and Port Aransas will also face very high UV levels and breezy southeast winds near 20 mph. Although the rip current risk is low, swimmers should use caution near piers and jetties where dangerous currents can still occur.
Beachgoers should wear light-colored clothing and take frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas. For those without reliable cooling at home, local cooling centers may provide relief.
Warm, partly cloudy conditions will persist tonight, with lows staying in the upper 70s. More heat and a slight chance of storms return by midweek, with highs remaining above 100°F through Memorial Day.
