AUSTIN, Texas – A widespread Dense Fog Advisory is in effect for parts of south-central and coastal Texas from 3 a.m. to 9 a.m. CST Thursday, with visibility expected to drop below one-quarter mile in many areas east of I-35 and along the Gulf Coast.

According to the National Weather Service offices in Austin/San Antonio and Corpus Christi, dense fog will develop overnight as calm winds and high humidity create ideal conditions for low clouds and reduced visibility. The advisory includes Bastrop, Fayette, Guadalupe, Lavaca, Goliad, Victoria, Bee, and Nueces Counties, extending from Seguin and Gonzales to Corpus Christi and Port Lavaca.

“Drivers should expect hazardous travel due to low visibility,” forecasters warned. “Slow down, use headlights, and allow extra braking distance.” Fog is likely to thicken toward daybreak, especially along U.S. 183, I-10, and Highway 77, before lifting gradually by midmorning.

While areas near San Antonio and Austin may see patchier fog, forecasters said the advisory could expand westward if visibility deteriorates overnight. Once fog clears, Thursday will bring sunny and warm conditions with highs in the upper 70s to near 80°F.

Motorists and early commuters are urged to leave extra travel time and remain alert for sudden drops in visibility along rural roads and bridges.
