Corpus Christi, Texas – South Texas will see rounds of heavy rainfall Thursday afternoon and evening, bringing the risk of isolated flooding across the Coastal Bend. Some areas could pick up 1 to 3 inches of rain in a short span, enough to overwhelm low-lying roads and drainage systems.

According to the National Weather Service in Corpus Christi, a Level 1 excessive rainfall risk is in effect, with at least a 5% chance of flash flooding in localized spots. The greatest impacts are expected along the coastal counties, including Nueces, Aransas, and Refugio, where slow-moving showers may linger.

Drivers should remain alert on major roads such as Interstate 37, Highway 35, and the Crosstown Expressway, where standing water may develop quickly. Emergency managers urge residents not to attempt driving through flooded streets, reminding: “Turn Around, Don’t Drown.”

Communities from Victoria to Kingsville could also see ponding on roadways, while rural areas may face washed-out low-water crossings. While widespread flooding is not expected, even isolated incidents can be dangerous if storms repeatedly pass over the same neighborhoods.

Rain chances will taper late Thursday night, but additional showers could return into the weekend, keeping conditions unsettled.
