Corpus Christi, Texas – Hazardous marine conditions are expected to develop along the middle Texas coast late Sunday night into Monday as strong north winds increase behind a cold front.

According to the National Weather Service in Corpus Christi, a Gale Watch remains in effect for all coastal and offshore marine zones beginning late Sunday night and continuing through Monday afternoon. North winds are forecast to increase to 35 knots, with gusts up to 45 knots possible across the coastal waters.

The affected areas include Baffin Bay, Corpus Christi Bay, Copano Bay, Aransas Bay, Redfish Bay, San Antonio Bay, Espiritu Santo Bay, and the Baffin Bay to Matagorda Shipping Channel, extending out to 60 nautical miles offshore.

Seas are expected to build significantly, with wave heights reaching 7 to 12 feet by Monday. The National Weather Service warns that these conditions may be dangerous for small craft, particularly for inexperienced mariners or those operating smaller vessels. Navigating during gale conditions could become hazardous or unsafe.

The strong winds are expected to develop rapidly as the cold front moves through the region, producing rough seas, reduced vessel control, and increased strain on moorings and docks. Mariners are strongly encouraged to secure vessels ahead of time and avoid unnecessary travel on the water during the watch period.

While a Gale Watch indicates that gale-force conditions are possible, forecasters note that it may be upgraded to a Gale Warning if confidence increases. Timing and intensity could still change slightly as the system approaches.

Coastal residents and marine operators are urged to monitor the latest forecasts and statements from the National Weather Service. Those with plans on the water late Sunday or Monday should consider adjusting schedules or remaining in port until conditions improve.
