Corpus Christi, Texas – Triple-digit heat and dry air will keep South Texas on high alert Thursday as fire danger climbs across the Brush Country and inland coastal plains. Afternoon highs are expected to soar between 101° and 106°, with the hottest readings near Laredo, Cotulla, and Tilden.
According to the National Weather Service in Corpus Christi, humidity values will drop to as low as 20 to 30 percent, creating dangerous conditions for rapid wildfire spread. Winds out of the south near 10 mph will add to the risk. Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning and use extreme caution with grills, power tools, or any equipment that could spark flames.
In Corpus Christi, highs will reach the mid-90s, with Rockport and Port Lavaca staying slightly cooler in the low 90s. Still, the heat index and very high UV levels mean outdoor workers and beachgoers should take precautions. Water temperatures remain in the upper 80s with wave heights around 2 feet, and rip current risk is considered low today.
Tonight, temperatures will gradually fall into the mid to upper 70s under partly cloudy skies. Fire weather concerns are expected to ease overnight but could return Friday with more heat and dry air.
