Corpus Christi, Texas – Isolated severe thunderstorms could impact the Coastal Bend midday through late Saturday night, bringing hail and damaging winds to areas including I-37 and US-77.

According to the National Weather Service Corpus Christi, strong to severe thunderstorms are possible Saturday as a weak cold front moves through South Texas. The highest local risk level is 1 out of 5, indicating isolated severe storms are possible.

Primary threats include large hail and damaging wind gusts. Secondary threats include heavy rainfall and a low tornado risk. Storm development is expected to begin around midday Saturday and continue into the late evening hours.

Communities including Corpus Christi, Rockport, Port Lavaca, Victoria, Sinton and Kingsville fall within the outlined risk area. Travel corridors such as Interstate 37, U.S. Highway 77 and State Highway 286 could see brief hazardous driving conditions during stronger cells.

Despite the frontal passage, temperatures will remain well above seasonal averages. Highs are forecast to reach 91 degrees Tuesday, climbing to 92 degrees Wednesday and 94 degrees Thursday. Overnight lows will remain in the upper 50s to mid-60s.

The National Weather Service notes that clear skies are expected for much of next week after Saturday’s storms move out of the region.

Drivers, students and outdoor workers across Nueces and surrounding counties may experience brief delays if storms intensify during peak travel hours.
