Corpus Christi, Texas — Dense fog is creating hazardous travel conditions across portions of South Texas this morning, significantly reducing visibility on major roadways.
According to the National Weather Service in Corpus Christi, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect through 9 a.m. for the Coastal Plains and Victoria Crossroads. Visibility in affected areas has dropped to around one-quarter mile or less, especially during the early morning hours.
The fog is impacting travel along key corridors including U.S. Highway 77, Interstate 37, U.S. Highway 59, U.S. Highway 181, and State Highway 35. Drivers may encounter sudden visibility reductions, particularly in low-lying areas, near waterways, and along rural stretches of road.
Forecasters warn that dense fog can make it difficult to see other vehicles, traffic signals, and roadway hazards until drivers are already close. Conditions may change rapidly over short distances, increasing the risk of rear-end collisions and roadway departures.
Motorists are urged to slow down, increase following distance, and use low-beam headlights. High beams can worsen visibility in foggy conditions by reflecting light back toward the driver. Officials also recommend delaying travel, if possible, until visibility improves later this morning.
The advisory area includes communities near Corpus Christi, Kingsville, Alice, Victoria, Rockport, and Port Lavaca, where fog has been most persistent. Improvement is expected after sunrise as temperatures warm and mixing increases, allowing fog to gradually dissipate.
The alert is especially relevant for early-morning commuters, commercial drivers, and school transportation routes, where reduced visibility can create dangerous driving situations.
