Corpus Christi, Texas – Temperatures across the Coastal Bend are expected to drop near or below freezing this weekend as a surge of cold air moves into South Texas, according to the National Weather Service in Corpus Christi.

In a Friday update, forecasters said overnight lows could fall into the lower 30s in some inland locations late Saturday night and early Sunday morning. Daytime highs this weekend are forecast to range from the upper 50s to lower 60s, with clear skies helping colder air settle overnight.

The National Weather Service indicated that while not all areas will reach freezing, conditions may be cold enough to pose concerns for unprotected pipes, pets, and cold-sensitive vegetation, especially outside urban centers.

A gradual warming trend is expected to begin early next week. Forecast highs are projected to rebound into the upper 60s to low 70s by Monday, with overnight lows climbing into the upper 40s and 50s. Rain chances are expected to return by Tuesday, with precipitation probabilities increasing to 20–35%, followed by 25–50% chances on Wednesday.

No winter precipitation is currently forecast, and impacts are expected to remain limited to cold temperatures. Commuters and early-morning workers may notice the sharp temperature drop, particularly during pre-dawn hours this weekend.

Residents are encouraged to monitor local forecasts for updates as the cold air settles in and to take basic cold-weather precautions.
