Corpus Christi, TX – Fire danger will remain elevated across the South Texas Coastal Plains and Brush Country Friday afternoon as low humidity and critically dry vegetation increase the risk of wildfire ignition, according to the US National Weather Service Corpus Christi TX.
The Fire Danger Statement is in effect from noon Friday through 7 a.m. Saturday, covering areas including Laredo, Cotulla, Beeville, Alice, and Kingsville. Forecasters note relative humidity levels will drop to between 10–20% inland and 20–30% along the Coastal Bend, with light winds between 5–10 mph expected.
While the lighter winds will help limit rapid fire spread, officials warn that any sparks could quickly ignite dry grass and brush given current drought conditions.
Residents are urged to:
- Avoid open flames or sparks outdoors.
- Keep vehicles off dry grass.
- Properly discard cigarettes and avoid outdoor burning.
The National Weather Service emphasizes that continued dry weather will keep fire danger elevated into the weekend before humidity levels rise early next week.
