Corpus Christi, Texas – Scorching heat and scattered thunderstorms are gripping South Texas, with temperatures surging past 100°F in many areas and relief unlikely until late in the week.
According to the National Weather Service in Corpus Christi, Sunday marked the start of an extended heat event, with highs expected between 100°F–103°F through Wednesday across the Brush Country and northern Coastal Bend. Laredo hit 101°F Sunday, while Corpus Christi peaked near 97°F with more oppressive heat on the way. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected east of I-37, particularly in the Victoria Crossroads and Port Lavaca area.
Victoria, Beeville, and Rockport may see some temporary relief from pop-up storms Monday, but chances drop significantly on Tuesday before rebounding sharply by Juneteenth. Rain chances increase to 60% on Wednesday night and continue into Friday, especially east of I-37.
Residents are urged to limit outdoor activities, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Heat indices will likely exceed 105°F in many areas. If traveling, especially along I-37 or US-281, expect rapid changes in visibility during storm cells.
Rain chances and cloud cover could bring some cooling by Friday, but the heat threat persists across inland counties.
Warnings remain in effect through at least Friday, with updates expected daily.
