Davenport, Iowa – A strong cold front slicing through eastern Iowa and western Illinois early Wednesday will bring a quick burst of thunderstorms followed by a sharp drop in temperatures, offering the region its first real taste of fall.
According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, scattered showers and thunderstorms will move through by mid-morning Wednesday, with rain chances peaking between 40–70%. Most areas will see less than a quarter inch of rainfall, and severe weather is not expected. However, gusty winds and a noticeable cooldown will follow in the afternoon.
Highs will range from the upper 60s north to mid-70s south before plummeting into the low 40s overnight—an abrupt shift from recent summerlike nights. Breezy conditions are expected to linger into Friday, with highs holding in the 60s and 70s through the weekend.
Residents in Davenport, Rock Island, Moline, and Muscatine should prepare for a windy, cooler stretch and consider closing windows by Wednesday night. Light jackets may be needed for early morning commutes beginning Thursday.
No weather warnings are active now, but updates may follow if storm coverage increases.
