Cookeville, TN – The National Weather Service in Nashville has extended a Winter Weather Advisory for portions of eastern Middle Tennessee, including the Cumberland Plateau, effective from 8 PM Thursday through 6 AM Friday.
According to forecaster Holley, a wintry mix of light snow and freezing rain is expected overnight across Putnam, White, Cumberland, Fentress, Overton, Clay, Jackson, and Pickett Counties. Snow totals are forecast to reach up to one inch, with a light glaze of ice possible on elevated surfaces.
The NWS warns that bridges and overpasses may become slick and hazardous, especially during the early-morning commute Friday. Drivers are urged to slow down and use caution, as even minimal ice accumulation can create dangerous travel conditions.
Road conditions can be checked by calling 511 or visiting the Tennessee Department of Transportation’s online travel portal for live updates.
Temperatures are expected to hover near freezing overnight before gradually warming Friday morning, allowing road surfaces to improve by midday.
