Cookeville, Tenn. – A Cookeville man was arrested following a February storage unit burglary investigation that recovered stolen property and illegal drugs.
According to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded Feb. 19 to a reported burglary at a storage facility at 2158 W. Broad St. in Cookeville. The victim reported a removed lock and multiple missing items. Surveillance footage later revealed the burglary allegedly occurred Jan. 10.
Deputy Jacob Cobble reviewed footage that showed a Ford Taurus leaving the property with items matching those reported stolen, authorities said. After further investigation, deputies and dispatchers identified a suspect as Sean Johnson.
Johnson was located at America’s Best Value Extended Stay in Cookeville, where he was taken into custody for questioning. According to investigators, Johnson allegedly admitted to entering the storage unit unlawfully and taking items belonging to the victim.
Detectives executed a search of Johnson’s hotel room, where they recovered most of the stolen property. Authorities also reported finding marijuana and drug paraphernalia, including scales and baggies. During booking at the Putnam County Jail, corrections deputies allegedly discovered methamphetamine concealed in Johnson’s clothing.
Johnson faces charges including burglary, theft of property, manufacturing, delivery and sale of methamphetamine, introduction of contraband into a jail facility, and drug possession offenses. He was booked on an $87,500 bond with a court date set for Feb. 23.
Officials noted Johnson was reportedly on probation at the time of the arrest.
