Chicago, IL – Warm and dry conditions are expected to continue across northern Illinois through Friday before showers and thunderstorms return this weekend, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).
Forecasters said Wednesday that highs will remain in the upper 80s inland, with cooler readings near Lake Michigan thanks to steady lake breezes. Nighttime lows will stay in the upper 50s to mid-60s. Dry skies will dominate the rest of the work week, offering ideal conditions for commuters and outdoor activities.
According to the NWS Chicago office, the weather pattern shifts beginning Saturday. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected to develop, with rain chances continuing into Sunday. Forecasters noted that rainfall will be periodic, with some areas likely staying dry while others experience brief downpours. The heaviest activity is possible west of I-39.
Saturday’s highs will fall into the upper 70s to low 80s across the region, a noticeable cooldown from earlier in the week. By Sunday, highs are forecast in the upper 70s with storm chances ranging from 20 to 40 percent.
The NWS advises residents to monitor updates, especially if making outdoor weekend plans. “Periodic showers and storms could impact activities, but widespread severe weather is not expected at this time,” the agency said.
