Grand Marais, Minnesota – Roads along the North Shore could turn slick before sunrise Tuesday as a mix of snow and light icing spreads across Cook and Lake counties.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 1 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday. Up to 2 inches of snow and a light glaze of ice are expected, creating hazardous travel conditions throughout the day.

Grand Marais, Isabella, and areas along Highway 61 will likely see the most consistent impacts, especially during the early morning hours when surface temperatures hover near freezing. The combination of light ice and snow could make bridges and untreated roads particularly dangerous.

Travel conditions may worsen during both the morning and evening commutes, with reduced traction and occasional visibility drops in heavier bursts of precipitation. Areas near the Boundary Waters and Grand Portage Reservation could see slightly higher accumulations depending on precipitation type.

Drivers are urged to slow down, increase following distance, and check 511 road conditions before traveling. The advisory remains in place through Tuesday evening, and additional updates may be issued if icing becomes more widespread.
