Cook County, IL – A Chicago Heights woman has been charged with two felonies after allegedly firing a gun during an argument in Ford Heights, according to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s Police reported the incident occurred around 12:20 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 20, in the 1400 block of East 15th Street. Officers said 29-year-old Yushika Funches allegedly drove a red Jeep to a home, argued with residents, and pointed a gun. As she left the area, investigators said she allegedly fired a shot into the air from her vehicle. No one was injured.

According to authorities, Chicago Heights Police located Funches a short time later and took her into custody. Sheriff’s Police detectives determined she was the shooter, and the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved two felony charges: reckless discharge of a firearm and aggravated assault—discharge of a firearm from a motor vehicle.

A judge ordered Funches held at Cook County Jail following her initial court appearance on Saturday, Sept. 21, at the George N. Leighton Criminal Courthouse in Chicago.

The Cook County Sheriff’s Office reminded the public that defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
