Chicago, Illinois — Investigators are renewing efforts to solve the 2015 disappearance of Nyameka Malindi-Bell.

According to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, Malindi-Bell was last seen Nov. 27, 2015, in Chicago after leaving a scheduled work assignment. Authorities say she did not return home, and her whereabouts remain unknown nearly a decade later.

Malindi-Bell was 32 years old at the time she disappeared and is now 42, investigators said. She is described as a Black woman with brown eyes and brown hair, standing about 5 feet to 5 feet 3 inches tall and weighing approximately 150 to 170 pounds.

Officials said Malindi-Bell is originally from South Africa and has family who still live in Illinois.

According to the sheriff’s office, investigators have been unable to locate Malindi-Bell or the vehicle she may have been using when she disappeared. Records reviewed during the investigation showed her credit cards were used while traveling from Illinois toward Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Authorities also reported that her savings account was later accessed along a highway in Texas, with transactions occurring only at gas stations. The bank subsequently closed the account, officials said.

The Cook County Sheriff’s Office said its missing persons investigators continue to review the case and are asking the public for help identifying new leads.

Anyone with information about Nyameka Malindi-Bell or her disappearance is asked to contact the Cook County Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit at 773-674-9490 or email ccso.missingpersons@ccsheriff.org.

For younger residents, students, or commuters who may recognize the case online or through social media, investigators say even small details could help move the investigation forward.
