Three people are facing felony charges in connection with a string of retail thefts across Chicago and suburban Cook County, with investigators alleging the theft of more than $10,000 in merchandise.
According to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, the Sheriff’s Police Organized Retail Crime Unit began its investigation after learning two women allegedly stole merchandise from an Alo store in Skokie on July 21 and left in a black Chevy without registration plates. Later that day, deputies stopped the same vehicle in Chicago’s Auburn Gresham neighborhood for lacking registration and reportedly found bags containing Alo and Lululemon merchandise with security sensors still attached.
Authorities said the female passengers — 20-year-old Tekiah White and 22-year-old Breauna Martin — were identified as suspects in earlier thefts at Ulta Beauty locations in Chicago and River Forest. Investigators also linked the pair, along with the driver, 22-year-old Tyshun Williams, to previous thefts at a Lululemon store on Rush Street in Chicago.
Martin, of the 100 block of West 81st Street in Chicago, and White, of the 6100 block of South Evans Avenue, were each charged with three counts of felony retail theft. Williams, of the 400 block of East 81st Street, was charged with one count of felony retail theft. Officials said all three were released from custody after their initial court appearances.
Authorities stressed that all defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
