Cook County, IL – A Riverdale teenager is facing a felony gun charge after a loaded weapon with a drum magazine allegedly fell out of his coat during a police search Thursday night in Ford Heights.
According to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at about 8:10 p.m. on Dec. 1 to the 800 block of East Lincoln Highway after reports of people pointing firearms at others. When officers arrived, they saw a maroon Hyundai attempting to leave the area and pulled the vehicle over.
Deputies say an AR-style rifle and a handgun were visible inside the vehicle. All five occupants were ordered out, and during the search a third gun allegedly fell from the coat of passenger Trenton Hughes, 18. Officers learned Hughes did not have a FOID card or concealed carry license.
According to officials, the two weapons inside the vehicle were later determined to be replica firearms, and the four other individuals were released without charges.
The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved an aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon charge against Hughes. He was ordered into custody at Cook County Jail following his Dec. 2 initial court appearance at the Markham Courthouse.
Deputies reminded the public that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
