Chicago, IL – A large-scale drug trafficking investigation in Chicago’s Streeterville neighborhood led to the recovery of nearly 200 pounds of narcotics and the arrest of a 34-year-old man, according to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office.

On November 4, Cook County Sheriff’s Police Organized Crime Division executed a search warrant in the 200 block of East Illinois Street after learning that a suspect, identified as Christopher Jones, was allegedly selling marijuana from his apartment.

Investigators reportedly detained Jones in the building’s underground garage after smelling cannabis from his parked Range Rover. A Sheriff’s K-9 unit later detected drugs inside the vehicle, leading officers to seize about 14 pounds of cannabis.

A further search of the apartment uncovered approximately 134 pounds of cannabis and 41 pounds of psilocybin mushrooms, authorities said. Jones, who officially resides in Munster, Indiana, was charged with multiple felony drug offenses, including manufacture and delivery of more than 5,000 grams of cannabis — a Class X felony.

Court records show Jones was released from custody on November 5 following his initial appearance at the George N. Leighton Criminal Courthouse. Officials remind the public that defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
